Key Features

  • RF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Fixed f/11 Aperture
  • Retractable, Locking Lens Barrel
  • Gapless Dual-Layer Diffractive Optics
  • STM Stepping AF Motor
  • Optical Image Stabiliser
  • Customisable Control Ring
  • Compatible with RF Extenders

Characterised by its retractable design and a fixed f/11 aperture, this lens's sleek profile makes handheld super-tele shooting a very real possibility, and four stop-effective optical image stabilisation further helps to achieve sharp imagery when working in difficult lighting conditions. Also contributing to the reduced size is a distinct optical layout, which uses gapless dual-layer diffractive optics instead of multiple heavier individual elements, which also effectively controls colour fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity. Complementing this design is an STM stepping motor that delivers quick and quiet autofocus performance that is suitable for both stills and video needs. Additionally, a Control Ring is also integrated into the lens design for intuitive control over exposure settings from the lens itself. If you decide you need more than 800mm, this lens is compatible with the 1.4x and 2x RF Extenders for an equivalent focal length of 1120mm or 1600mm, respectively.

  • Super-telephoto prime is designed for use with full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless digital cameras.

  • Fixed f/11 aperture contributes to the sleek and portable form factor as well as a balanced mixture of depth of field and sharpness.

  • Gapless dual-layer diffractive optics contribute to a marked reduction in chromatic and spherical aberrations as well as benefit the design of a relatively compact and lightweight lens.

  • Retractable/extendable design, with a locking lens barrel, offers an impressively compact form factor considering the super-telephoto design.

  • An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to four stops to better enable working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.

  • STM stepping motor offers fast, quiet, smooth, and accurate autofocus performance that is ideal for video recording as well as still shooting.

  • Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.

  • Compatible with optional Extender RF 1.4x and Extender RF 2x teleconverters to further increase the effective focal length.

Perfect Focus

I bought this lens to accompany a mirrorless camera. The reduction in weight around my neck is wonderful as is the ability to capture those photos of birds always just on or outside the limit of my previous best lens. I thought the fixed F11 might be a problem but I've had no issue with that. Price too was remarkable.

Extremely impressed

I already own the R5 and the RF600mm so I know the limitations of f11 but in my mind the limitations are far outweighed by the advantages in terms of cost and weight. Another advantage is depth of field at f11 which I didnt fully appreciate beforehand and I'm also impressed with the smooth bokeh from both these lenses.

Both lenses are easy to pack and have with you when you want them which is something you cant say about the big whites.

800mm gives the extra reach for shooting shy wildlife and the stabilisation combined with the R5 is nothing short of amazing handheld, the subject is motionless in the viewfinder allowing slower shutter speeds and less noise.

I'm blown away with the sharpness of both lenses for the price, quality images that I never thought I could take at such distances.

Fortunately HDEW had one in stock and in my hands a couple of days later. Excellent all round :)

Better than expected

Lent this lens for a 48hr test drive and was not disappointed, it's now on my hdew wishlist.

Light to carry & the fixed F11 was not an issue, all the reviews I had read were for it on the R5 & R6 so I was a bit concerend how the images would be on the EOSR, the stabilisation works extremely well, looking through the view finder I could see my subject moving about due to the zoom and my shaking hands but the images were pin sharp. Great for wildlife, small birds can fill the frame, I used it in a dark wood with a high ISO and the quality was great.

Defiantly recommend
